CLDF Bereavement

Nothing can take away the pain of losing  a child and everyone deals with grief in their own way, in their own time.

CLDF's support does not end when a child dies.  We understand that the family starts a new, individual journey. If you would like to speak to a member of the CLDF team, please contact us here.

CLDF’s bereavement service includes:

  • Sunshine Tribute Funds - an online fund set up to honour the memory of a loved one
  • A range of literature for you and other children in your family
  • A memory book in which your child’s name is honoured. The book is displayed at CLDF’s offices in Birmingham and is taken to certain events.
  • A specially designed journey box for your child’s precious mementos
  • On Sunday 23rd August 2015, we held a Remembrance and Celebration Service (with a picnic). It was an event for friends and families whose child has sadly died and for people who wanted to remember their donor, and you can read about it here.
  • Our next Remembrance and Celebration Service will take place in 2017.
  • The National Memorial Arboretum is home to a CLDF tree in memory of the lives of children and young people lost to childhood liver disease.

Sited in the Children's Wood at the National Memorial Arboretum, you can visit the tree any time, where staff in the Visitors Centre will be happy to help you find it.

“After our daughter Ellen's death it was comforting to know that CLDF was there for us, to listen and answer any questions we had.  Five years on CLDF are still there for us and provide occasions which give us an opportunity to take time out to remember Ellen and celebrate her life.”
Sam and Peter Housley

We are not automatically informed when a child dies so if you can please let us know. If you feel you can not inform us, you can ask your hospital, a friend or relative to do so on your behalf. A member of the families team will then get in touch with you, if you would like us to. We also send anniversary cards to let you know that we remember your child and that we're thinking of you.

We are grateful to the following generous donors:

  • Mr Malcolm Downing, in memory of Mrs Lillian Ray Joan Downing
  • Catholic Parish of Melbourne & Castle Donington – Advent Project 2010
