Vision of the future

Despite the incredible work of the many teams with which the Children's Liver Disease Foundation has the privilege to work, there is much we still do not know about the causes of these diseases. Many are serious and life threatening. To improve the lives of the youngsters affected and those of the families, there needs to be continued research to find the answer to why their particular disease occurs and how it can be best treated.

Since inception in 1980, the Foundation's record of accomplishment has been impressive. It has funded an important and pivotal study in paediatric liver disease, developed a range of educational programmes and has a support service, which is second to none. Quite simply, Children's Liver Disease Foundation makes a difference.

But CLDF faces new challenges and there can be no let up in our drive and enthusiasm. We must continue to carry the torch lit by the early families, many of whom are still active CLDF supporters today. Yes, it is true that many children with biliary atresia are alive today who would not be if it were 1983. But we are far from having the answers to why these diseases occur, the mechanism of liver damage or being able to assess the real quality of life for our patients. We know our families need support and so do the surviving young people who are now facing the challenge of taking their liver disease into adulthood.  The sums of money we need to raise in the next decade are huge if we are to continue to make a difference.   If you are able to help by making a donation, whatever you are able to offer would be greatly appreciated.  You can donate by clicking on the red donate tab or by calling the office on 0121 212 3839 - thank you.
