Small grants research programme

The trustees of Children’s Liver Disease Foundation will make available £20,000 per annum for a small grants research programme.  Applications must be in line with the CLDF research strategy - Research Strategy 2011 -2014.

The money will be distributed quarterly with a maximum of £5,000 being awarded in any one quarter.  Applicants may apply for up to £5,000 in a quarter.  Successful applicants will not be eligible to apply for a further year following an award being made.  

The trustees will look favourably on applications where the candidates can show that they can add value to the contribution made by CLDF.  Those who can show matching funding from their institution or other sources will be regarded favourably.  

Use of funds

  • Applications will only be accepted for work based in the UK.
  • Applications must be in line with the CLDF research strategy
  • The funds can be used widely but applicants must always be able to demonstrate how it can contribute to knowledge in paediatric hepatology.
  • Applications can include funding for pilot studies, funding equipment (but not IT equipment), and funding social and nursing research.
  • Travel and internal audit grants will not normally be awarded except in exceptional circumstances.
  • Funds will not be awarded to fund/contribute towards time taken in the study of NHS salaried staff.
  • Funds will not be awarded retrospectively.  

Grant Rounds

Throughout the year there will be four grant rounds for which a maximum amount of £5,000 will be available in total.  Applicants may apply for up to £5,000.  Any money remaining from one quarter will be carried over to the next quarter until the end of the financial year.  The grant periods are:

  • 1 April – 30 June
  • 1 July – 30 September
  • 1 October – 31 December
  • 1 January – 31 March
