Bishop's Stortford Bowling day

Seven families joined CLDF at 1st Bowl in Bishop’s Stortford on 21 April for a game of bowls, lunch, the chance to win some fun raffle prizes and the opportunity to meet others living with a childhood liver disease.
Laura Varma, Support Team Leader and Young People’s Officer said: “Saturday’s event was a great opportunity for families in this area to meet in an informal setting, share their experiences and have fun.  This was our final 2011/2012 Winter Programme event and we’ve been delighted with the response we’ve had.”

Among the guests on Saturday was Philip, whose six year old son Kian has had a liver and a kidney transplant: “I came along to the event with my wife and son to meet other children and families in a similar situation.  We came without any expectations but we were extremely happy with the whole event, especially since Kian was made to feel special on his birthday – so thank you!  We have made contacts with other families, which is fantastic and we will definitely be keeping in touch.”

Information on upcoming CLDF Family events will be available on the CLDF website soon – watch this space!

Sheffield Bowling Day

Eleven families came along to Hollywood Bowl Centertainment in Sheffield on 1st October 2011 for a game of bowls, lunch, the chance to win some fun raffle prizes and the opportunity to meet others in the same situation.

Amongst the guests on Saturday was Nicola Basher from Sheffield whose eight year old son, Louis, has Alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency: “It’s easy to feel that you’re all alone going through an experience like this,” she explains. “We had never met other families who had been through what we had so we found it really valuable to be able to do that and to compare experiences. And the main thing was that it was fun – Louis and his brother had a great time!”

Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency Family Picnic

Families from all over the country were treated to some warm summer sunshine at CLDF’s alpha-1 antitrypsin picnic at Birmingham’s Botanical Gardens on Saturday 30 July.

Parents, grandparents and friends chatted over their picnics, sharing their experiences of living with a childhood liver disease.  And while the grown-ups were having a good natter, youngsters of all ages had great fun letting their imaginations go wild with a bout of balloon modelling and pirate activity, with some hilarious results.  Click here to see some pictures from the day.

The picnic was also an ideal opportunity for members of CLDF staff to thank some fundraising families who attended for their inspiring efforts and to pass on some money raising tips and ideas to others.

Auto Immune Liver Disease Family Picnic

Our summer picnic season is well and truly underway. The event on Saturday 16 July was especially for families affected by auto-immune liver disease and we were delighted to see young people who had not met before bring their family and friends to join us at the Botanical Gardens in Birmingham for an afternoon of fun, in spite of the distinctly unsummery weather!

Thanks to the shelter provided by the beautiful bandstand, we were able to enjoy our picnics, exchange advice and experiences about living with auto immune liver disease and learn the art of balloon modelling thanks to our resident expert, Laura!

We were delighted that 16 families from around the country were able to join us in glorious sunshine at Birmingham’s beautiful Botanical Gardens.

The afternoon was a wonderful opportunity for families to meet and to share advice and experiences on living with biliary atresia as well as have some fun.

Activities included parachute games, Human Bingo and a balloon dog modelling competition!
