CLDF works with the UK specialist paediatric liver centres to present study days which aim to provide healthcare professionals with a sound overview of paediatric liver disease and how it relates to the particular delegate's work setting. A range of afternoon workshops allow delegates to gain greater insight into more specific areas of interest.
The course is suitable for those with a client with a liver disease and those wishing to extend their knowledge, including community paediatricians, general practitioners, midwives, health visitors, community paediatric teams, school nurses and shared care unit staff and staff involved in antenatal screening for viral hepatitis . RCN Accreditation has been awarded to this study day.
Key learning points include: The difference between and significance of physiological jaundice and jaundice caused by liver disease The diagnosis, referral, management, care (including shared care) of the jaundiced infant and the older children within an acute and chronic setting The effect of liver disease on the child and the family and the implications of this in their management Sessions include: Liver Disease in children in primary care
Supporting families with a child with liver disease
Living with liver disease from the viewpoint of the parents Panel question and answer session
Workshops include: Living with Chronic Liver Disease Hepatitis A, B and C Nutritional problems and interventions in paediatric liver disease Liver Transplantation
Study days are held at three locations in the UK with a slight variation in the course programme in each - Birmingham Children's Hospital NHS Trust
- King's College Hospital, London
- St James's University Hospital, Leeds
A resource pack and certificate of attendance will be provided. Cost per delegate is £60, with a £40 'early bird' price for those booking four weeks prior to the course.
