FAQ in Fundraising

Q. What makes a good fundraising event?
A. Anything that is fun, exciting and of interest to people in your local community and hence will raise significant funds for CLDF.  Often simple events such as coffee mornings are easy to organise, well-received, good fun and raise a generous amount.

Alternatively, you may decide to take part in one of our challenge activities.

Q. I want to raise money for CLDF but don't know what sort of event I want to organise, what would you suggest?
A.
Trying to think of unique fundraising idea can be difficult.  If you are stuck on where to begin then contact the  fundraising department.  Click here send an email or call 0121 212 6022.

Before organising an event think about the amount of time you can give.  Even fairly small events can be very demanding on time.

We have a variety of fundraising guides available from archery shoots to tombolas.  Each guide gives advice on how to organise an event and get the most out of it.  Click here to download the contact form to order your event guide. Alternatively, call 0121 212 6022.

Q. How would you suggest that I raise sponsorship money?
A.
Ensure as many people as possible know about your event/activity.  Tell friends and family, put posters up around your workplace and get some coverage in your local media (CLDF's communications officer will be able to help you with this.).  Also, speak to your employer, as they may be willing to make a lump sum donation or match your fundraising efforts pound for pound.  You may also decide to contact other local businesses to request corporate sponsorship; some may decide not to offer a monetary donation but may provide resources such as food or other materials needed for your event.

We can help you too.  We have a communications officer who specialises in helping to promote your activity / event locally.  Click here to send an email to the communications officer or call 0121 212 6012. If you would like to help raise awareness of CLDF, click here to order fundraising materials.

Q. How can I increase my sponsorship?
A.
There are many ways that you can increase your sponsorship.  Tell friends and family about the event that you are taking part in, put posters up around your work place to let your colleagues know about your event or challenge.  You can encourage new sponsors through media coverage, try and get news of your event or challenge into your local newspaper or announced on local radio.  The more people who know about what you are doing the better.  Our communications officer will be happy to help but will need details of your event.  Click here in order to do so.
If you work, why not tell your employer about your event?  Many companies offer matched giving whereby they match your fundraising efforts pound for pound or they may make a donation. A good method for ensuring that you receive your sponsorship money is to ask people pay you at the time they sponsor you - post-dated cheques are fine.  This means that when you  have completed the event you don't have to go around trying get people to part with their cash!  Another excellent method for getting sponsorship from friends and family who you don't see very often is to use the services of Just Giving. Through Just Giving you can set up a sponsorship page on the site, whereby people can then sponsor you on-line.  For more information visit www.justgiving.com/cldf/raisemoney

Remember when collecting sponsors ask all tax payers to tick the gift aid box, this means for every £1 raised CLDF receive an extra 28p from the taxman and it won't cost you a penny.

Q. Will I be able to prove to the people who have sponsored me that the money raised has gone to CLDF?
A.
Yes.  We will send you a thank you letter with a receipt so you can show people.

Q. I want to encourage as many people as possible to attend my event, what would you suggest?
A.
The best way to raise awareness of your event is to use publicity. Try getting your event in your local newspaper or an announcement on your local radio station.  Our communications officer will be able to help you with this.  Contact her on 0121 212 6012 or click here to send an e-mail

Q. My organisation has a fixed amount it can give to a charity.  Are there ways we can demonstrate just how this money has helped CLDF?

 A. Yes, CLDF has several fundraising packages of all sizes available in the areas of research, support and education.  Please contact our supporter fundraising manager for more information.  We also have a variety of fundraising materials available to support your efforts such as banners, display equipment, posters, leaflets and many other items which will help create awareness of CLDF before and during your event.  Click here to order a leaflet
