Prescription Charges Review

On 23 September 2008, the Prime Minister announced that the Government would abolish prescription charges for cancer patients (from 2009) and that over the next few years, patients with long term conditions should also be exempt from prescription charges.

Professor Ian Gilmore, President of the Royal College of Physicians was asked by the Government to carry out a review of prescription charges for people with long term conditions and to report to Minsters in Summer 2009.

The review will take into account the views of patients, the public, patient representative bodies, clinicians and healthcare organisations on effective implementation to exempt those with long term conditions.

As part of this review, the Department of Health is hosting a short survey online. To take part please click here.

The survey closes on 27 February 2009.

A short pack, providing background information can be found here. You might find it useful to read this before completing the survey.
