2006 January 11 - Two key appointments at Children?s Liver Disease Foundation
National children’s charity, Children’s Liver Disease Foundation (CLDF), has recently appointed an in-house trust fundraiser and a second family support officer. CLDF, based in Birmingham, is the only organization in the UK dedicated to stamping out childhood liver disease. It funds pioneering research, helps educate healthcare professionals and the general public and provides professional, emotional support to families affected by childhood liver disease. Tina Freeth (28) from Birmingham has been appointed trust fundraiser. The charity recognized the need for a dedicated full time resource having previously been handled on a consultancy basis. Tina, who was trained by Wooton George Consultancy Ltd and was previously employed as fundraising officer for a Birmingham based charity said, “CLDF has some tremendous projects in place covering support, education and research and significant developments today can be attributed to its work. There is so much more we want to do over the next three years which requires increased funding. I am looking forward to the challenge of identifying new opportunities and preparing tailored applications to help us achieve our goals.” Ellen Cooper (27) has been appointed as the charity’s second family support officer after funding was received by a number of donors. Ellen will be working part-time at the Foundation until summer 2006 when she completes a post graduate diploma in counseling and the post becomes full-time. Ellen who lives in Birmingham joins the Foundation having previously worked in a number of advice, guidance and support roles including work with Disability West Midlands, Job Centre Plus and Pertemps Employment Alliance. Ellen will be working closely with the Foundations existing family support officer and young persons support Officer, attending clinics in the UK’s three main liver unit hospitals (Birmingham Children’s Hospital, St James’s University Hospital, Leeds and King’s College Hospital, London), and a number of regional clinics around the country. Ellen will also assist in providing a telephone and email support to families, developing literature for families and patients and organizing a memorial service for families every two years. Ellen says, “Most people are unaware that two children are diagnosed with a liver disease every day in the UK, many of the diseases are life threatening but all mean a lifetime of care. The need for a dedicated service for the thousands of families affected is vital and I have been very impressed by the Foundations commitment to providing professional emotional and practical support. The need for our services is greater than ever with over 5,000 families now in contact with the Foundation. The appointment of a second family support officer was essential to allow CLDF to continue the service it is so proud of and to allow expansion in the future. I am thrilled to be part of the team”. - Ends - For further information on this story please contact Rachel Markham, Children’s Liver Disease Foundation on 0121 212 6012, e-mail: communications@childliverdisease.org Note to editors: The Children’s Liver Disease Foundation is a unique national charity that fights childhood liver diseases through funding pioneering research and educating healthcare professionals and the general public.
