2006 February 13 - Chester bands help raise funds for liver disease children

Some of Chester’s best young musical talent are helping to raise funds for children with liver disease via a new fundraising CD.

Nine local artists are featured on the CD which is being sold in aid of Children’s Liver Disease Foundation (CLDF), the only organisation in the UK dedicated to stamping out childhood liver disease.

All the artists won the ‘top act of the night’ award at the open music session held by RAmusiccentreprises at Loaf over the past few months.  They performed at a special ‘Loaf hall of fame winner’s night’ on 13th December which was recorded live for the CD.

Rich George-Higgins, CLDF supporter and RAmusicenterprises MD recorded and produced the CD.  He was keen to raise funds for the charity which can offer vital practical and emotional support to families, as his niece was diagnosed with a life-threatening liver disease, biliary atresia, as a baby and underwent a life-saving liver transplant.

Rich says, “CLDF really does make a difference to families of children with liver disease.  Rosie will require medication for the rest of her life but has been transformed since her transplant.  She is now a beautiful seven year old with a lust for life, not all families of children with liver disease are so lucky.

“Most people are unaware that children can even get liver disease, so the need for information and support is crucial.  CLDF provided support to my family and I thought I would do something to help make sure they can continue their vital work.  Not only can people hear some of Chester’s brightest young musical talent, but by purchasing the CD, people will be helping to give a brighter future for children with liver disease too.”

All the artists on the CD are unsigned and all the songs are original tracks.   There is also a bonus track by local professional singer/songwriter Lowensa.   The ‘Loaf Live Vol 1’ CD is available at a cost of £3.50 with all proceeds going to CLDF.  It can be purchased by calling 07813438450 or e-mailing: richramusic@lowensa.com or by visiting:
• Loaf, Music Hall Passageway, Chester
• Music Experience, 99 Brook Street, Chester
• The Greyhound Rehearsal Room and Studio, Farndon
• Café dot com, Faulkner Street, Hoole, Chester. (?)

Catherine Arkley, chief executive of Children’s Liver Disease Foundation, adds, “Most people are unaware that two children are diagnosed with a liver disease every day in the UK, that’s a greater incidence than childhood leukaemia.  Most liver diseases are life threatening, all mean a lifetime of care.  We desperately need more funds to continue our vital research, education and support programmes and we are very grateful to Rich and all the performers featured for creating this CD in aid of the Foundation.”
