2004 August 18 - Riding Along On Their Pushbikes For Charity
NEWS RELEASE 18 August 2004 RIDING ALONG ON THEIR PUSHBIKES FOR CHARITY On 23 August a group of eight friends, including four from Reading, are taking part in the Coast-to-Coast bike ride to raise money for the charity, which supported their friends when their child was diagnosed with liver disease. Charlotte Greenaway, along with Nick Robinson, Chris and Andy Lambourn will be cycling 150 miles from Whitehaven in the Lake District up to Newcastle upon Tyne over three days to raise money for the Children's Liver Disease Foundation (CLDF). CLDF is a unique national charity that fights childhood liver diseases through funding pioneering research and educating healthcare professionals and the general public. It also supports thousands of families affected. Charlotte said: "We decided to take part in this for CLDF as our friends son has liver disease. His family has received tremendous support from the Foundation and this is our way of giving something back. I hope we can also help raise awareness that children get liver disease." "The aim of the ride is for everybody to cycle 50 miles a day. I cycle for a hobby so I hope I don’t find it too difficult. I have always wanted to do a major route in the UK, so taking part to raise money for a charity was a bonus. At present I am trying to build up my bike rides to 40 miles at a time." Catherine Arkley, chief executive of the Foundation, said: "We are extremely grateful that Charlotte and her friends are taking part in the Coast-to-Coast bike ride to raise money for the Foundation. Not many people realise that at least two children every day are diagnosed with a liver disease and these are just the ones we know about. Effective research is the key to providing a future for children and young people like Finlay and it is only with the fundraising efforts of people like Charlotte and her friends that we can continue to fund this research."
