2005 November 13 - Response to obese teens' liver warning

curr

In response to recent reports in the press that liver diseases, including cirrhosis, are increasing being seen in overweight teenagers,

Catherine Arkley, chief executive, Children’s Liver Disease Foundation, comments,

“We have seen an enormous rise in the number of children with fatty liver disease and are in the process of developing parent / patient literature to help support families and young people with this condition.

“We still know remarkably little about NASH (non-alcoholic steato-hepatitis) in young people and this highlights the need for more research so informed guidelines can be given.  We can also then in build this knowledge into our study day programme which goes out to a range of community healthcare professionals”.
