2005 December 05 - Local woman celebrates appointment as national charity trustee by hosting Christm

A local woman, who recently became trustee of a national children’s charity, has celebrated the appointment by raising £750 through an early-bird Christmas shopping evening.

Jayne Carroll, from Beckenham, was appointed trustee of Children’s Liver Disease Foundation (CLDF) in April 2005.  CLDF is a unique national charity which fights childhood liver disease by funding pioneering research, educating health professionals and the public, and supporting families of children with liver disease.

Jayne became involved with the charity through her friend Ann Mowat, who is also a member of the board of trustees and the wife of the late Professor Alex Mowat.  Professor Mowat pioneered the provision of childhood liver disease services in the UK and had a pivotal role in saving the lives of literally thousands of children afflicted with childhood liver disease.

Jayne hosted the Christmas shopping evening for female friends and associates at her home on Wickham Way on 16th November, with all proceeds going to the charity.  A wide range of goods were available on the night, including ladies fashions, candles, Virgin Vie jewellery and make-up, Phoenix cards and papers, Usborne books and a range of CLDF merchandise.  A raffle took place and guests could also take advantage of a relaxing Indian head massage or reflexology session in return for a donation.

Jayne says, “I’d like to thank everyone who supported the fundraising event and helped make it such as success.  I am really looking forward to organising more events and helping to raise awareness of the work of the Foundation in the coming months.  I was thrilled to be invited to join the board of trustees. The charity does such fantastic work and is so crucial to families of children with liver disease.”

Catherine Arkley, chief executive of the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation adds,
"We are delighted that Jayne has joined the board of trustees at CLDF.  She has already shown such enthusiasm for the role, as demonstrated by the Christmas shopping evening.  Jayne will continue to play an important part in helping the charity raise awareness of childhood liver disease, and raise vital funds.  Many people don’t realise that two children are diagnosed with a liver disease every day, that’s a higher incidence than childhood leukaemia. Each year we need to raise more money to fund new research projects, educate more healthcare professionals and support more families."
