An introduction to 'Supporting Families' tab | Supporting families

Our support service aims to offer emotional support and practical help to families and young people according to individual needs.  The team comprises of two family support officers and a young persons support officer.

You are not alone
Every working day two new families are added to our mailing list, people who need the lifeline that so many have told us we provide.  We are here to offer emotional support to anyone affected by childhood liver disease, not just parents but grandparents, siblings and friends too. Our support can be accessed whatever your situation; when you are at hospital, at home, or even when your children have grown up and moved away. We aim to listen and understand the many feelings you may be having.

A listening ear
Whether you simply want to speak to someone who understands or require specific information or advice, we are here for you.  The team make regular visits to the three supra-regional hospitals, and regional clinics around the country, to meet in person with as many families as possible.  Details of the clinics that the team are attending can be found here. It is also often away from the hospital setting that families and young people need our support and we encourage contact by phone and email.

Information and advice
Information is often the first requirement when your child is diagnosed with a liver disease, and this can be gained from our Parent’s Information Pack.   The pack contains support factsheets, general information on the work of CLDF, and if a condition has been diagnosed, we can include specific medical factsheets detailing possible symptoms and treatments. Click here to request a Parents Information Pack. The support team can also provide advice on practical issues, such as appropriate holiday insurance.  If we are unable to assist directly, we can point you in the right direction using our wide network of information sources.

CLDF On-Call - Out of Hours Service
The support team offers an out of hours service after office hours on Wednesdays until 7pm.  Call: 0121 212 6023.  The rest of the week we can be contacted 9am – 5pm on the same number.  In an emergency someone can be reached on: 07831 846 760

Face2Face at CLDF
We are piloting another new service within our Face2Face Programme.  Face2Face at CLDF will enable you to visit us in our office in Birmingham.  We appreciate that hospitals are not always the easiest place to talk so if you would like to arrange a visit to see us, please get in touch:   0121 212 6023
