Government announces consultation on organ donation opt-out system in England

05/10/17

On Wednesday 4 October 2017 the Prime Minister announced plans to change the organ donation system in England to presumed consent (also known as opt-out). Under this system it is automatically presumed that you will donate your organs unless you choose not to, by opting out. Currently you need to opt in to donate your organs by signing the organ donor register.

We're delighted to hear that organ donation is being talked about at the top level of government, driving more national awareness. Whichever system is in place, it is important to remember that organ donation cannot take place without family consent, so make sure to have a conversation with your loved ones about your decision.
