Universal vaccination against Hepatitis B

09/08/17

All babies born from 1st August 2017 across the UK will have protection against hepatitis B included in the universal vaccination programme. CLDF has long campaigned for this change, which sees the UK join the 184 other countries who already vaccinate infants against hepatitis B, and we are delighted that the vaccine is being introduced across the UK from this month.

The Hexavalent injection protects against diphtheria, polio, tetanus, whooping cough and Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) as well as offering immunity against hepatitis B.

The vaccine is given three times as part of the childhood immunisation programme, when babies are eight weeks, 12 weeks and 16 weeks old.
